REFERENCE: Frequently Asked Questions
Shoulder Replacement
Q: I have a tear in my shoulder and (need) a shoulder replacement. Can I (return to) my regular duties after the surgery? I work as a boilermaker. It is a lot of heavy work. Will I be able to play golf after I get the surgery?
Answered by David Bailie M.D. on December 18, 2001
A: The ability to do heavy work after shoulder replacement depends on numerous factors: age, muscle strength, rotator cuff status, type of prosthesis and motion. Golf usually is ok but other activities have to be individualized by the surgeon.
