Dr. David Bailie

Dr. David Bailie: Shoulder1.com Welcomes New Medical Advisor

November 13, 2001

Shoulder1.com Welcomes New Medical Advisor

Dr. David S. Bailie has joined Shoulder1.com as our newest Medical Advisor. In his role, he will ensure Shoulder1 provides you, our viewers, with the most up-to-date information on shoulder injuries, treatments and rehabilitation, as well as new technologies and medical breakthroughs in the diagnosing and treating of various shoulder problems.

Dr. Bailie chairs the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea (Hospital) in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he sees patients from all walks of life at The Orthopedic Clinic Association (TOCA) in Scottsdale, Arizona. A graduate of the University of Michigan, the Indiana University School of Medicine and was a post-graduate fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at Baylor Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas. , Dr. Bailie specializes in all sports medicine injuries and arthroscopic surgery, including shoulder reconstruction.

"I chose Orthopedic surgery while a junior in high school after having an injury and doing a project in Physics class. I loved the idea of being able to "fix" people. I am proud to be involved with several professional and college teams, including the NBA's Phoenix Suns, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and Arizona State University.

When asked about the future of sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, Dr. Bailie is, in a word, "excited."

"With new bioengineering concepts, I think that things will change drastically in the next 5-10 years. My personal challenges are to assist with the advancement of state of the art surgical and noninvasive techniques in the treatment of Orthopedic Sports Medicine-related diseases (and) injuries. "

"I see (Shoulder1.com) as being very important in the dissemination of accurate information to the consumer. This is of tremendous importance to me. The most important way to provide the correct information is to support the information with the available research. Patients need to know what are considered "medical fact" and not just opinions. This can be very difficult, particularly when the literature conflicts. In the clinical setting, all current treatment rationales should be presented for the problems in question and physicians should help to education their patients not just given them a diagnosis and one of two options for treatment."
